Terence Crutcher

On September 2016, Terence Crutcher, an African American male was shot by a police officer, in Tulsa Oklahoma. That morning the police received a call that said there was an abandoned vehicle on the road, people claimed to have seen Terence smoking something and were scared. When the police came down to the scene, they claimed that Terence refused to take his hands out of his pockets. The officers also claimed that he was going to his car, one officer tased him, and Officer Shelby shot him. But for what was the killing of an innocent African American worth?
How long will all these shootings go on for? The shooting of African Americans by White cops has increased drastically. But it isn’t necessarily a race issue. The day after Terence Crutcher was shot and killed Keith Lamont Scott, was also shot and killed in North Carolina, but by a Black Police officer. “This is not a black/white thing. This is a blue/black thing.” The United States needs to come together and try to fix the problem with African Americans and Police officers. I feel as if it is a racial profiling problem, if a white male was going back to his car the officers would just grab him instead of shooting and killing Terence. One problem with this situation with Terence Cruthcher was that Officer Shelby was so close to him that she could’ve taken out her Taser and tased him. There was no need to take the life of Terence, and for what, what was he doing to scare the police officers?

The article that I read on CNN seemed as if it was written from more of a neutral point of view instead of addressing the problem point of view. I kind had a problem with it the first time I read it because it seemed as if they were going towards the officer’s point of view, when I feel as if it was clearly the officers’ fault for shooting and killing and innocent African American male. Shelby was later charged with manslaughter, so how can it not be falling towards the African Americans point of view. There would be no need to feel as if we should pick sides if this problem had been addressed earlier, or now. This isn’t just a onetime things this problem has been here for a while and it is causing a problem in the African American communities. Living with this kind of a sense of fear shouldn’t be inside of them.

The goal that CNN was trying to achieve was to state the problem and to say what others think about it. Things shouldn’t be blown out of proportion by social media. By just giving facts and what happened we could all see what the problem was in this situation. The goal that needs to be achieved in the United States is that they need to look at the police Department and fix the problem in there of racial profiling. Racial profiling has always been a problem in the United States and not just for African Americans. With this still as an issue, there is almost no way to help united America to the way that it was before.
