Pollution in Beijing

Beijing’s Smog

There’s have been major problems in China with the smog before, but at this moment in time the smog is causing a whole other issue, expenses. The first thing that Jiang does when she wakes up in the morning is that she checks if her daughter is breathing clean air. This shouldn’t be the main concern of anyone anywhere pollution is such a horrible thing that major cities defiantly need to get taken care of. Even the water in Beijing is not able to be drank, the water for drinking is imported for people, but has to be bought. For Beijing’s rising middle class and poorer residents, this high-end home equipment is financially out of reach. Not this pollution problem in China is turning into a class issue; and it’s killing off those left behind. Studies have shown that there has been over 3 million deaths across 74 cities throughout China. Matthew Kahn stated when talking to CNN that, “Air pollution exacerbates inequality between the rich and poor in urban China.” The rich is liver in the cleaner parts of the city, with their effective filters as the poor are struggling to keep their children awake and breathing.

A family in China installed a fresh air filtering system, which cause them about 4,300 dollars, this is a ventilation system that cleans the outsides air and later pumps it into their homes. The purifiers in the homes need to be changed about once a month which costs around 430 dollars. Then if you include the filters that need to be put on the sinks, that costs around 300 dollars, and shower filters cost upwards to 1000 dollars. It has reached a point in China where there is more of a concern over air pollution throughout the country and it is threatening China’s stability. China needs to get a hold of this pollution before more people start dying as a result, as well as that the country needs to fix the problem because of the results of expensive that come with this pollution problem.

An civilian on the ground described the seen from down there by explaining that they woke up to a bright light and then later realized that a plane was up and flames and the village was ruined beyond recognition. Many of the people in the village were sleeping during the time that the plane crashed. There were also many children included in the death count of those in the crash. The Turkish President Recept Tayyip Erdogan, expressed his sadness to the loss of life, which wasn’t very new for Turkey at this time. The crash is told to be cause by poor visibility due to thick mist. This aircraft model has also been involved in several crashes over the past decades, so this new crash was just an addition to what was already there.

For this article written by BBC I think that they are aiming to draw the world in on this tragic accident that just happened. Compared to CNN, BBC has written this article with additional information such as a eye witness to this accident, which shows to us as an audience that this eye witness was feeling when this happened. I think that we should get together and help those who have lost there homes and families I this countries, these families need support right now in this hard times.

Shooting at Fort Lauderdale Airport

Shooting at Fort Lauderdale Airport
On January 6th, 2017 a mass shooting occurred at Fort Lauderdale- Hollywood international Airport in Broward Country, Florida. This shooting happened near the baggage claim in terminal 2 at the airport. Five people were killed in this shooting, and six people were injured. The man who committed this was Esteban Santiago- Ruiz. Esteban claims that there were voices in his head that told him to join ISIS, so therefore this was seen as an act of terrorism. Santiago had already once been taken into a police office in Alaska where his gun was confiscated but was later given back to him. As a result Santiago used the same gun in the shooting at Fort Lauderdale airport.

There are many concerns popping up as a result of this shooting, the main concern being asked about gun control right now is that, should a man who has been adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to any mental institution be able to possess a gun. Santiago has a mental disease which could turn this act into any type of case. In the United States, each state has adopted tougher restrictions than federal laws on gun ownership for people with mental health issues. For example in Maryland, a person may not possess a regulated firearm if the person suffers from a mental disorder or “Has a history of violent behavior. That’s just for the state of Maryland though, gun control has been a major a topic in the United States for the last couple of years. It will be interesting to see how this case is resolved, and also how gun control is going to be addressed in the next for years with President Donald Trump.
